Minimum graphics for windows 7

Especially Firefox and OpenOffice are notoire memory suckers, and launching a few tabs in FF or a few docs in OOo would bring it all to a screeching halt. Bring in something like Flash…. However, as always, mileage may vary. I was going to bitch and complain about this, as my full blown Ubuntu running several apps right now and Compiz only uses around MB.

Or OpenOffice. I think part of the problem also is whether you have a dedicated or shared graphics. And some other odd lot stuff. Gnome Desktop server, with typical office workload running Fedora 8 and Gnome for about 60 simultaneous desktops. About simultaneous instances of a business accounting and service tracking package.

Until approximately 3 months ago, we were running well with 8GB, but there were occasions in which I felt performance could be better. Now, before our last OS upgrade from Centos 4 to Fedora 8, we were running 32 bit.

Slightly fewer users. Say And we then had 4GB. It was about the same situation as 3 months ago. The move from 32 bit CentOS 4 to 64 bit Fedora 8 increased the memory requirements. It still ran acceptably on 4GB, but it was pretty clear I needed to upgrade the memory. Which we did, to 8GB. Thus far, everything I have said is backed by actual experience. Interestingly, processor has never been an issue on this box.

Which is why I always smile a little when I see posts where people are drooling over multicore for their sinlge user desktop. Load average on this machine averages 2. And for FWIW, local network bandwidth is a total nonfactor. Except for the file serving obviously , I could run this on 10baseT and I doubt anyone would notice a difference.

Why did I bother to post all this? And maybe even better with the next release! There is in fact a team which tests this scenario and works to get multiplicative per-user costs down. They ensure that the OS works properly with hundreds of sessions of IE, Office, and a few other applications at once.

And I do it all on the MB box. Kubuntu 8. Including OpenOffice. This is my media jukebox Amarok 2 and school work computer. You must have extremely high standards. Nothing more nothing less. I think, it was disappointment even for Microsoft. So, they have to do something. Oh, no. Something that will help to cover this Vista thing.

Just works. Microsoft makes it on purpose to make a bloated OS. I do have another older laptop, Toshiba S I may try 7 on. It's only a Celeron 1Ghz, mb ram, 8mb intergrated video,20Gb HDD setup but as we only use it for web surfing I may see if 7 will run on it. I'll post when I try. Love the HomeGroup feature. All 3 RC7 computers have had no problems sharing data.

Wednesday, August 5, PM. Sam Yes, please do try to run it, as I am curious to see how it runs! I will see about installing win7 on a Dell Optiplex GX P3 processor, of ram, and 32 mb integrated graphics, and Ill post on how that runs Edit: As piepaw said about his P3 test pc, it runs unbearably slow Now for real slowness, try my setup: P3 on dial-up with a soft modem!

Thursday, August 6, AM. Thursday, August 6, PM. OK, I did it The p3 does run win7, but it is a little annoying to wait for the comp to catch up every time you do something.

The Other Devices in Control Panel show an ethernet controller, a multimedia audio controller, and a PCI simple communications controller, so this comp has no way of getting online right now to even check windows update for drivers! The weird thing to me is that the sound card is a PCI card, I would think win7 would have drivers for those cards buil-in, especially when XP does.

The audio played well, but the video framerate was very poor and got largely out of sync with the audio, allowing the audio to get at least seconds ahead of the video.

Saturday, August 8, PM. Edit: Thanks for unquoting it! Saturday, August 15, AM. Cool, but how did you get Aero to run on the G chipset? As Intel never made Vista or win7 graphics drivers for the onboard graphics! Please reply back, promptly if possible with the results to solutions to your problem! Curious about Win7 min. Saturday, August 15, PM. My point is win7 would be stuck with x resolution and the basic theme without drivers, and no one has made Vista or win7 drivers for this chipset.

Since Accuzition is running Aero on this chipset, it raises the question, how did you get Aero to run, as without the driver which as seen above, doesn't exist you can't run Aero. I am asking you again, Please unquote my OP in your 1st post, as the specs no longer match! Edit: thanks for unquoting it! Sunday, August 16, AM. Thanks Ronnie for unquoting the OP! What was the pic though, as I didn't see it before you removed it. I have seen pics on here before, so just wondering what was up!?

Monday, August 17, AM. Wednesday, August 26, PM. Glad to see that! Do you know what processor speed e. If so, any driver problems with it? Thursday, August 27, PM. Hey JoelbX, I also installed on a Optiplex GX, I had the same issue as the x, checked device manager, and everything was installed correctly. I did however find a thread that said the BIOS needed adjusting, as the video buffer was set at 1mb. I raised this to 8mb and was then able to control AERO, and change the screen res.
