And considering that XP MCE is such a stable and mature product, it was generally much easier just to stick with that. However, the situation has improved and Vista MCE is looking much more healthy. Click OK and exit the Editor. DVDs will still play as normal though — just insert the disc and the movie will auto-load. Select this option. The best structure to have is a top-level root folder, and then subfolder for each DVD title. Put a tick next to the top-level folder, and then click Next.
Vista will automatically scan and recognise the contents of the folder and populate the DVD Library. Select any title, and it will play it as if it was a standard DVD. Sorry i think i don't get it mate what is "Ind". Where is it?. On Pc everything works fine,on notebook - then I boot from cd to change some reg files - it said that can't find that registy The only way I doing this is to test if the media center button will work on my remote which was with Hp Notebook. I used BartPe to create Media center key and Installed 1,but after restart they are gone.
I mean if you boot windows xp and go to regedit there is media center and dword file installed is set to 0. How to fix it? Another update:For some reason after restart the files in system32 are visible.
I did just like in the instruction. After restart it told that my activation is failed Update3:After I did load hive and changed installed from 0 to 1 and unload it, I boot up system and it said that windows activation is gone, reinstall it again. Update4:Stupid me. Now installing it. I installed it It said that this update is only for media center. If not try to change it manually. Restart and try reinstalling update rollup 2. But too bad seems that is not available anymore you still can google it.
Maybe you could update the driver to make the Remote working. Edit again: Seems that i also have to add this explanation here and to the first post above for some other people Wincert members and visitors who may be reading it here:.

Like getting directions at a gas station, I'm trying to avoid calling up WHS tech support. Under 'log on as:', by default, it's set to Network Service. Click Browse.. Enter your password twice, and hit OK. The alternative method would be to allow Guest 'full control' over the specified shares; however, that's far less secure than the first method.
Media Library Sharing, unfortunately, doesn't work with Media Center. Media Player, yes. Hardware devices, yes, MC, unfortunately, no. However, from the sounds of things, your local account on that PC doesn't even match an account on the WHS - you need to manually connect to the shares. That indicates that, while the display name what you see in the start menu might match that on the WHS, the actual account name does not.
Here, you can change the actual account name to match the display name. Do that; Windows will automagically map the existing user profile to your new account name. I had the same problem with an MCE macine I built some time ago which was programed to log on automatically.
By following the advice above I learnt that I was using the "computer" name as the "user". Hence it would back up alright and I could get access to the media shares but nothing else on the server. Worse, I had forgotten the password for the MCE machine. Then I changed the password for the new user on WHS you dont need the old password to do this and this time I wrote it down.
Then I synced the new password on the server to also be the password on the MCE box which still logs on aotomatically and Some files may also be DRM protected and therefore only be shown on the same computer, on which they have been recorded. I assume some of the ports will also be needed for the media sharing feature in WHS I see a lot of media connect exceptions in my firewall at WHS at home, so I would tink these take care for the media sharing.
I had tried another account and password. I also tried using the guest account without a password thanks to someone's suggestion here. Neither one worked well or at all sometimes. This allowed me to have the PC always remember to use a specific username and password when accessing the server or a website. This worked everywhere except where I needed it the most. But I now use it for my other PCs. So back to my Vista-MCE. I had it logon to the WHS as the administrator and checkmarked the " Remember me " box.
On a few occassions I have to log in again. The admin account gave the Vista-MCE total access to all the media shares.
And as a side effect has allowed me to begin appending all that metadata info to the MP3 album art, etc. It's not exactly as I would have wanted it. But for now it works. And a better manual from Microsoft and HP would be nice too. Along with an explanation of why there's one method of managing passwords and a million ways to screw up trying to share a folder. I can only confirm, that this should work, if you have enabled Media sharing in the console settings.
Just without any further dancing around Media Center on two different Vista Ultimate PCs was able to detect the network folders and to playback fotos and videos, which have been made by my daughter with her camera somewhen in the past.
